Chief Instructor

I started my study of Aikido in 1977 with Shizuo Imaizumi sensei at the New York Ki Society in New York City.  In 1988, he started Shin-Budo Kai and continued as the Chief Instructor until 2022.  In 2022, I became the Chief Instructor of the New York City dojo.  Effective 2/1/25, the New York City dojo is closed.  Shin-Budo Kai Hudson Valley is an authorized affiliated dojo of Shin-Budo Kai, Inc.

Shin-Budo Kai has a number of other affiliated dojos in the United States and we are working to expand internationally.  For more information, see our website: https://shinbudokai.org/

For the past 47 years, I have learned the importance of “Beginner’s Mind”. Beginner’s Mind means that we begin a technique proactively. What we have accomplished before takes a back seat to the new experience. Every time we get onto the mat, it’s a new beginning. Every attack is a blank canvas and invites the opportunity to apply old knowledge to a new situation.

Beginning with your first session, you will learn (or relearn) how to move more efficiently which will lead to creating effective techniques.  You will not rely upon muscular strength but, rather, you will develop strength from mobilizing your center.   And, you will start (or continue) on your physical, mental, and spiritual path.
